Class

The tools in the Class group allow you to organize your edge markers into different classes.  Once assigned to a class, an edge marker adopts the color of that class, and the edge is associated with the class name in the Line Profile graph and table. The use of classes allows for better visual recognition and identification of different classes of edges; in the Line Profile table, edges can be sorted by class.

The list box at the top of the Class group lists all currently defined classes.  The properties of the currently selected class are applied to the currently selected measurement(s) when you click the Apply button.

The basic steps for using the Class tools to group edges into different classes are as follows:

Click on the Add tool to create another class.

Another class name appears in the Name field with the default name "Class n", where n is the number of classes previously defined plus one.

(Optional) Type over the text "Class n" with a more meaningful name for the class (such as "Class B").

In the Class group, click the Color Picker tool, and select a unique color for the new class.

In the Class group, click the Select tool.
The edge selection tool is activated.

In the image, click on each edge that belongs to the new class.

In the Class group, click the Apply tool.

The selected edges are assigned to the new class.

Repeat steps 1-6 for each additional class that you want to define.

The various tools of the Line Profile Class group are described below.

Add: Click this button to create a new class. When you click this button, a new undefined class is created with the name "Class n", where n is the number of classes previously defined plus one. By default, it is also assigned a unique color and point marker style. Once created, you can type over the default name with a more meaningful name, and you can change the color and point marker style as you desire.

Color Picker: This tool allows you to select the color to be associated with the currently selected class. Click on the arrow to the right of the colored box to show the color options. The color you select will be used to identify measurements of that class in the tables and reports.

Options: This tool provides a list of options for showing/hiding the class names. Because the class names can make the display, graph, or table look too 'busy', the Options menu allows you to turn them on or off.

Delete Class: Click this tool to remove the currently selected class from the list of classes. When you click this tool, the current class that is selected is removed from the list box, and all edges that were assigned to that class are unassigned. This action cannot be undone.

Remove Classes: This tool is only enabled if at least one edge is selected (see the Select tool description below) and that edge is a member of a class. Clicking this tool unassigns the selected edge(s) from membership in any class.

Note: This tool does not allow you to delete edges. Edges can be deleted through the Line Profile Window. Click here for information on deleting edges.

Select: Click this tool to put the cursor in a state that allows you to select edge markers in the line profile overlay in the image. Use this tool to select edges that you want to add to the current class (that is, whatever class is shown in the field at the top of the Class group). You would also use this tool to select edges that you want to remove.

When the select tool is activated, you can simply hover over any edge marker and click on it to select it. Hint: Hold down the <Ctrl> key to select multiple markers.

Apply: This tool is only enabled if at least one edge is selected (see the Select tool description below) and that edge is not already a member of the currently selected class. Click this tool to apply all currently-selected edge markers to the current class.
