Editing Reports: Inserting Illustrations

Illustrations include any kind of image data. There are two ways to insert illustrations into your reports:

  • Paste it in from the Windows Clipboard
  • Load it from File

Note: It is important to remember that illustrations can be added as graphical objects or as pictures embedded in the flow of text. In the former case, all text wrapping, rotation, positioning, layering, and other options available to graphical objects are available to the inserted illustration; in the latter case, manipulation of the illustration is limited to resizing it.

Cut and Paste

When you cut and paste an illustration into a report, the illustration is added as a picture embedded in the flow of text, not as a graphical object.

To cut and paste an illustration into a report:

Copy the illustration to the Windows clipboard by using the Copy or Cut tool.

Open the report into which you want to insert it, and click at the location where you want it inserted.

On the Report Tools Report ribbon, click on the Paste tool.
The illustration is added to the report at the current cursor location.

Load from File

To load from file:

Open the report into which you want to insert the illustration, and click at the location where you want the illustration inserted.

On the Report Tools Insert ribbon, click on either the Picture tool or the Inline Picture tool.

The Open dialog box is displayed.

Note: Use the Picture tool to insert the image as a graphical object.

Navigate to the image that you want to insert, select it, and click Open.
