Adjusting the White Balance

Image-Pro

The “white balance” controls allow you to adjust the color of live images streamed from your camera.  Sometimes the color in live images can appear ‘off’, appearing too red, too green, too blue, or some combination.  This is especially noticeable if there is an area of the image that should appear white but instead appears purplish or bluish.  In such cases, the amount of red, green, and blue in the image should be adjusted (‘balanced’) so that what appears white to the naked eye appears white through the capture utility.

There are two methods for adjusting white balance:

  • Automatic
  • Manual.

To Use the Auto-White Balance Function

To have Image-Pro adjust the white balance automatically:

Open the Capture Preview window (if it is not already opened).

To open the Capture Preview window, click on the Live tool on the Capture ribbon.

The Capture Preview window appears.

Find the Color group of controls on the Details panel.

Click White Balance in the Color panel.

Draw an ROI in the Capture Preview window around an feature that is white.

Image-Pro adjusts the colors so that they appear through the Capture Preview window as they appear to the eye.

To Adjust the White Balance Manually

To adjust the white balance manually:

On the Capture ribbon, click on the Settings tool.
The settings controls are displayed on the Details panel.

Find the Color group on the Details panel. It has slider controls for the Red, Green, and Blue channels.

Adjust the Red, Green, and Blue sliders until the white features in the image as seen through the Capture Preview window appear white to the eye.
