Table Styles/Draw Borders

The Design tab provides controls that allow you to change the borders and shading of cells in a table.

Changing Table Cell Borders

You can change the following characteristics of table cell borders:

  • Border Style (e.g., solid, dashed, etc.)
  • Border Thickness
  • Border color

To change the borders of one or more cells:

Select the cells you want to modify.

Click on Pen Color and select the color you want applied to the borders.

Note: You will notice that the color is not immediately applied to the selected cells. Border options are applied when you click on an option from the Border tool (see step 5 below).

Click on the Border Style pull-down list box (to the left of the Pen Color tool), and select the desired line style.

Again, your selection will not be immediately applied.

In the Border Thickness spin box (to the left of the Pen Color tool), specify the desire border thickness, in points.

From the Border pull-down list box, click on the option that describes which borders (for the selected cells) you want the formatting options applied to.
For example, suppose red was selected in Step 2, "Dash" in Step 3, 0.5 in Step 4, and then the "All Borders" option was selected in Step 5. After you clicked on the "All Borders" option, the formatting selections would be applied, as follows:
