Data Overlay

Hidden Feature

The Data Overlay group provides tools for showing, hiding, configuring, formatting, and otherwise managing data overlays -- data displays that are superimposed as overlays on images.

Show:  Click the show button to enable the Active Data Overlay for viewing images.  The Active Data Overlay is a dynamic overlay that superimposes image metadata over images so that it is conveniently available to you as you are viewing images.

The overlay is dynamic because it shows active data for whatever image is currently being viewed.  Whether you are viewing live data from a camera, playback of a previously-stored image sequence, manipulating an image in the application workspace, or moving between images that are open in the application workspace, as image data changes, the active data overlay display is updated accordingly.

You can define the content and arrangement of Active Data Overlays through the controls available on the Show tool submenu. This submenu has the following options:

  • Convert to Annotation: Click this tool to convert the active data overlay as it currently appears into an annotation overlay -- attached to the image.  As an annotation overlay, the data is no longer dynamic, but it can be stored with the image.
  • Customize...:  Click this tool to access the Display Data on Images window through which you can manage the content, appearance, and storage of your active data overlays.  Click here for more information.
