Tools

The first step in the line profile and edge-detection processes is to create a line profile overlay using one of the sampling tools in the Tools group.

Select: The Select tool is used to select a drawing object on the image. To select more than one object, hold down the <CTRL> key while clicking the mouse pointer on the objects. You may also select multiple objects in an area by using the object selector to draw a rectangle to enclose them.

Line:  The Line tool is used to draw straight lines and arrows.  To draw a line, select this tool, and click on the location in your image where you want to start the line. Drag the mouse cursor to the ending point. A line with handles will appear.

Rectangle and Round Rectangle:  The Rectangle and Round Rectangle buttons create similar objects. To draw a rectangle or rounded rectangle, place the cursor anywhere in the image, then drag the cursor to the appropriate size and release the mouse button.  Once a rectangle has been created, its size can be modified by placing your cursor on one of the handles and dragging it to a new position.   Hold down the <Shift> key when drawing a rectangle or round rectangle to draw a square.

Circle and Ellipse: The Circle and Ellipse button is used to draw circles and ellipse. To draw an ellipse, drag the cursor until an ellipse of the size and shape you need is produced.  Once an ellipse has been created, its size can be modified by placing your cursor on one of the handles and dragging it to a new position.  Hold down the <Shift> key when drawing an ellipse to create a circle.

Polyline:  This tool allows you draw poly-vertices lines or freehand lines and shapes.

To draw freeform lines and shapes

Use this technique to create lines and shapes that have smooth edges.  Hold the left mouse down while you draw with the cursor to create the desired freeform shape.  Double-click to complete the shape.

To draw polyvertices lines

Use this technique to create lines and shapes that are made up of straight line segments.  Click the left mouse button at each vertex (including the beginning point) of the polygon.  Double-click to complete the line.

Delete: The Delete button will permanently delete the selected annotation object(s) from the image.

Delete All: The Delete All button will permanently remove all annotation objects from the active image.

Width: Use the spin buttons to set the thickness of the line in the line profile features.

Features Manager:  Image-Pro allows you to create collections of predefined annotation shapes called Feature Collections.  Each annotation included in a collection can be applied repeatedly to a single image or can be applied to different images.  Feature collections can also be saved so that they are available across sessions, and so that you can manage your annotation collections in different files.  Click here for more information.

Profile Settings:  This tool allows you to change the name and display characteristics of the selected profile label.  Click on it to display a sub-menu of options. Use the controls on this sub-menu to show/hide the profile label or to change the name, opacity, or color of the profile label.
